Twenty five years after the release of their debut album KISS were given what is still one of the entertainment business’s ultimate accolades – a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

It was on 11 August 1999 that KISS became the 2,325th recipient of a star. A large crowd of fans, many decked out as their favourite band member, turned out for the ceremony, at which Paul Stanley thanked the fans and Peter Criss expressed his gratitude to everyone. The KISS star is located at 7092 Hollywood Blvd (On Marshfield Way as it merges into Hollywood Blvd). The KISS star is one of more than 2,500 five-pointed stars featuring the names of not only human celebrities but also fictional characters honoured by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for their contributions to the entertainment industry.

The Walk of Fame runs for 1.3 miles (2.1 km) east to west on Hollywood Boulevard from North Gower Street to North La Brea Avenue, plus a short segment of Marshfield Way, where you’ll find the KISS star, that runs diagonally between Hollywood and La Brea. Committees representing the four major branches of the entertainment industry – motion pictures, television, audio recording, and radio, selected initially 1,558 honourees.

Joanne Woodward is often said to have been the first to receive a star, but there really was no ‘first’. Woodward was one of eight drawn at random from the original 1,558 and inscribed on eight stars in 1958; the other seven names were Olive Borden, Ronald Colman, Louise Fazenda, Preston Foster, Burt Lancaster, Edward Sedgwick, and Ernest Torrence. There are now 2,518 stars in total, with 29 brand new recipients announced for 2015 this June.

Four decades after releasing their self-titled, major label debut, KISS will were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in April 2014, proof of the unparalleled devotion and loyalty of the KISS Army to the “Hottest Band in the World” as they rallied together to have the band included in this year’s induction ceremony.
