The UK premiere of the Queen + Adam Lambert documentary, The Show Must Go On will broadcast on Friday 11 October on SKY Arts at 10pm.

Previously screened in the US, The Show Must Go On follows the behind-the-scenes activities between Lambert and original Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor since Lambert’s American Idol debut in 2009. The pair first performed together singing ‘We Are the Champions’ on the reality TV show and then decided to work together on a larger scale through several tours, eventually creating the Queen + Adam Lambert brand.

The Show Must Go On contains rare concert footage and interviews with Lambert, his parents Leila and Eber, Brian May and Roger Taylor, Simon Cowell, Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek and Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins. The documentary is a two-hour special that will focus on the rise of a collaboration that would lead to “200 sold-out show in arenas and stadiums across the world.”

Also on SKY Arts that same evening and running into Saturday morning, after The Show Must Go On, are the following Queen related programmes:

Queen – Live At Wembley: 11.15pm – Queen take to the stage in 1986 for an electrifying concert at Wembley Stadium. Part of their legendary ‘Magic’ Tour, Freddie Mercury, and the band perform all their greatest hits.

Queen – The Magic Years: 1.00am – They came, they rocked and they influenced. See how the music of Queen’s Brian May, Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon earned them respect across the music world.

Queen – Video Killed The Radio Star: 2.15am – Members of Queen reflect on their iconic music videos, revealing their inspiration and creative processes, and the impact of the new medium on the music industry.

Also in Queen news, the band’s historic performance at Live Aid in July 1985 has been recreated in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. The globally-acclaimed Wembley Stadium show, which was featured in last year’s hit biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, saw the legendary band play a six-song set of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, Radio Ga Ga’, ‘Hammer to Fall’, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are The Champions’.

Queen and Lambert is a musical abomination. There is no Queen – period – without Freddie.

I saw this documentary in the US, and it was excellent. Of course, no one will ever replace Freddie Mercury, but Adam brings something different to the table and — dare I say it — just as exciting. We can’t get Freddie back but their music is as alive and popular as it ever was (as is the band), and part of that is because of the collaboration with Adam. I’ve watched this doc numerous times and it never gets old. Listen for the comments Brian May and others make. Everyone I know who watched (and none of them are Adam Lambert fans) thought it was outstanding.
