Stevie’s Songs In The Key Of Touring

Published on

Lucky Stevie Wonder fans in North America are to have the chance to see the Motown legend perform his historic 1976 double album ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ on an 11-city tour from November.

At a press conference on Wednesday (10) at the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live, it was confirmed that Stevie will begin the tour, produced and promoted by Live Nation, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The news will be hugely welcome to the countless devotees of one of the most brilliant albums of Wonder’s career, especially those who missed his previous, one-off performance of the entire record at his 18th annual ‘House Full Of Toys’ benefit concert last December, at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live.

Stevie’s millions of fans around the world will undoubtedly be lobbying for him to play the album internationally, especially in the UK, where the ‘Key Of Life’ track ‘Another Star’ was part of the soundtrack of the early summer via its prominent use in BBC Television’s soccer World Cup coverage.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale to Citi card members on September 16, and general tickets for select cities will be sold via Live Nation from September 22.

The dates on the ‘Songs In The Key Of Life Performance Tour’ are as follows:

Nov. 6: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Nov. 9 – Verizon Center, Washington, DC
Nov. 11 – TD Garden, Boston, MA
Nov. 14 – United Center, Chicago, IL
Nov. 16 – Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA
Nov. 20 – The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI
Nov. 22 – Philips Arena, Atlanta, GA
Nov. 25 – Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON
Nov. 29 – MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Dec. 3 – Key Arena, Seattle, WA
Dec. 5 – Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA

I have loved this man since Fingertips and love him even more since Fingertips. He’s a genius! However, I have come to realize that I hate stadium concerts! The venue is not conducive to the type of sound that I prefer. I found this out because I went to hear Gladys at her club in Vegas AFTER having gone to see Jill Scott with my cousin at the Verizon Center in DC. I still love Gladys. She is still all that! Jill is a great talent as well, but I do not feel that a venue such as that did anything for her presentation. Just my thoughts…..

I too hate stadium concerts. BUT, let me tell you! I went to Stevie’s “Wonder Autumn Night” concert in 2009 and the sound was phenomenal! He is truly a music master who knows how to make music in a stadium sound like you’re in your living room. Every note was crisp and clear on ballads and he jammed and drove I Wish like a run-away train. He is my one and only exceptional artist. Trust me, you do not want to miss this. Got my ticket this morning for Philly!

Stevie I miss working for you (in square circle tour concert at Madison Square Garden) you taught me so much about life that honestly you saved mine. Working with you was a blessing and a dream come true. I hope I get the chance again. When I called you I said it was Lanny from New York. Now it’s Lanny from Gainesville Florida. Hoping you get this. God bless, all my love and respect. Lanny from Gainesville Florida

I forgot to mention I handled Marketing, Public Relations, Tour Consulting and Security. I was the person that made possible your meeting with Gov. Duomo and was you liaison on Gov Cuomo’s Task Force for the Disabled and Handicapped. I also set up your appearance at Dr. Martin Luther King High School. Basically if it happened in New York, I arranged it!

I saw you only two days after Michael Jackson passed away and you could not perform because your heart was breaking. I felt so sorry for you but I really want another chance to see you again! I do not have a Citi card and I want tickets so bad I can taste them. You are my hero and my inspiration. Love to you.

Hi Teresa and everyone who’s given us such a great response to the Stevie story. We fully endorse the idea that he should add more dates, both in North America and internationally! Meanwhile, tickets for the 11-date itinerary are due to go on sale for most shows at the usual outlets on September 22.

I am a huge fan of Stevie Wonder……I remember the days when my mother would bring home singles 45’s to play on our record player and the most of them were from the Master Stevie Wonder. Songs like: Yesterday…..For Once in My Life……and then years later when the at that time Double Album “Songs in The Key Of Life” came out it just blew everything away. One of my favorite tracks on that Album is “AS” “Black Man” and “Ngiculela-Es Una Historia*I am Singing”

My absolute wish would be to see Stevie Wonder in Concert and be able to go Back Stage to meet him personally, he is truly one of the last very few Black Living Legends still around.

That would be my wish, but I live now in Cape Town, South Africa so I would now never have that opportunity to see him live.

Yours Truly and Friend in Christ

  31. Francesca Curran

    September 14, 2014 at 2:35 pm

I love Stevie Wonders’ music and want to take my son Nick, age 22, who has never been to concert before. Music is Nick’s therapy and he listens to Stevie on his iPod to relax. Nick was born normal but suddenly started to lose his sight at age 6. We later learned that blindness was only the first symptom of a fatal progressive neurological disease (similar to ALS). God is good, by His grace Nick is still with us and enjoying good quality of life.
We live each moment living it to the fullest because of him and his positive attitude. Thanks Stevie for the miracle of your life, your inspiration, your gift to others. Love, the Curran family

Would love to get tickets for my husband. He knows every Stevie song just from the first note or two. His sister asked him to sing “As” for his sister’s wedding when he was in college. He went to Morehouse College and sang in Glee Club for all four years. Stevie is a musician’s musician. Most have learned so much from him. There’s a print of Ernie Barnes work. It was called the “Maestro”. It’s a picture of a boy in an empty room with his hands in the air like he is conducting an orchestra. On a table in front of hime is an old radio. It says so much.
