Bon Jovi has released the music video for “Story of Love” from their latest album Bon Jovi: 2020 released last October via Island Records.

“I sat down to write a song for my children,” Bon Jovi said in a statement. “I realized I was writing it about my entire family, my children, my wife and my parents.”

The video finds Jon Bon Jovi performing in a home surrounded by photos of family. Absorbed in the memories of watching his children grow, he sings and watches his family history play through home videos that appear in the reflection of windows, mirrors, trophies, and more. Packing boxes appear throughout the visual, containing years of items that have come to hold sentimental value, from footballs to teddy bears.

“Fathers love daughters like mothers love sons / They’ve been writing our story before there was one / From the day you arrive, ’til you walk, ’til you run / There is nothin’ but pride, there is nothin’ but love,” he sings in the chorus of the heartfelt video.

Bon Jovi: 2020 arrived last October as a 10-track album and received a deluxe release with three additional songs: “Do What You Can” with Jennifer Nettles, “Shine” and “Luv Can.” The album debuted in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Originally slated for a May 2020 release, the project was pushed back to October due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The new release date also coincided with the cancellation of the album’s supporting tour. Bon Jovi has stayed connected to its fans in the interim through personal releases like the “Story of Love” music video.

The events throughout the year inspired Bon Jovi to write more music for the album that reflected the time at the time of its creation. That manifested in the release of “American Reckoning” and “Do What You Can.”

“The events I touched on in 2020 touched me. Topics such as veterans dealing with PTSD, gun control, inequality, racial injustice, and many others have an unbiased seat at this table. I didn’t take sides on any of these important issues,” Jon Bon Jovi told GQ.

“I just reported on them factually. That was my technique throughout the process. Make it very obvious what the song is about and where I stand, but don’t wave a finger, don’t be accusatory, that was what I set out to do.”
