In the spirit of giving, Kanye West dropped his new video for ‘Closed On Sunday’ in time for Thanksgiving Day, 28 November.
In the Jake Schreier-directed clip, which follows West’s father-featuring ‘Follow God’ video, West is seen with Kim Kardashian and their children walking aimlessly through a cold and desolate rocky terrain. The West clan is soon saved by a legion of armoured vehicles carrying Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian and Ye’s Sunday Service Choir. You can check the video out below.
‘Closed on Sunday’ – which also features on West’s latest album, Jesus Is King – serves as an ode to Christian-helmed fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A and how they abide by their beliefs of not operating on Sundays.
As uDiscover Music previously reported, Kanye West presented an opera titled Nebuchadnezzar at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl last Sunday, 24 November.
West shared a golden invitation to the event, designed by Nick Knight and featuring an engraved image of the ancient Babylonian king of the same name on Twitter.
The biblical title comes after the superstar took a foray into gospel music on his latest release, Jesus Is King. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it his ninth consecutive No. 1 and tying with Eminem’s for the longest in the chart’s history.
Issued on 25 October via GOOD Music/Def Jam Recordings, West’s gospel-hip-hop gamble paid off, earning 264,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending on 31 October, according to Nielsen Music. Of that total, 109,000 were in album sales, while the rest was powered by streaming activity, Billboard reported.
During a recent interview with Zane Lowe, West also likened himself to Nebuchadnezzar while discussing his past Yeezus tour.
“[God] is saying, Let me take this Nebuchadnezzar-type character—Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon, and he looked at his entire kingdom and said, I did this,” he said.
