Kanye West has shared his hotly-anticipated new track “Wash Us In The Blood” featuring Travis Scott. The Dr Dre-mixed song serves as the first taste of West’s forthcoming new album God’s Country.
“Wash Us In The Blood”s official video was directed by filmmaker, cinematographer and contemporary artist Arthur Jafa, whose acclaimed 2016 work ‘Love is the message, the message is Death’ incorporated West’s track “Ultralight Beam”. You can check the new video out below.
Jafa, who has previously worked on music videos for Solange and Devendra Banhart, as well as films including Spike Lee’s Crooklyn, revealed he was working with West back in May.
While in conversation with French fashion designer and film producer Michèle Lamy, Jafa revealed he was directing a video for the rapper. When asked if the video was for West’s Sunday Service project he said: “It’s from his new record, it’s called God’s Country and this will be like the first single, I guess.”
“Wash Us in Blood” marks West’s first new music since his 2019 gospel album Jesus Is King and the Sunday Service Choir’s album Jesus Is Born.
The rapper also staged two Biblical operas in 2019: the Sheck Wes – starring Nebuchadnezzar opera at the Hollywood Bowl and Mary at the waterfront Miami Marine Stadium.
Just last week, West announced a partnership between his Yeezy brand and retail giant Gap in a “multi-year partnership” that will see West and his team creating a co-branded collection of apparel for men, women, and children that will be sold online and in-store at Gap locations. The new Yeezy Gap collection is expected to launch in 2021.
Not to rest on his laurels, West also released an animated trailer last week for KIDS SEE GHOSTS, a forthcoming TV series based on his 2018 joint album with Kid Cudi. Directed by pop artist Takashi Murakami (who also designed the KIDS SEE GHOSTS album cover) the trailer features characters voiced by West and Cudi.
