Knopfler Speaks #1: The ‘Tracker’ Tour

Published on

With Mark Knopfler’s 2015 ‘Tracker’ tour now up and running, uDiscover has the first in a series of audio treats for his legions of fans. Here’s an exclusive segment of the great British singer-songwriter in conversation with journalist/broadcaster Paul Sexton. There’ll be more excerpts to come, and in this first instalment, Mark talks about the tour and how he feels about getting back on the road.

The UK and Ireland leg of the itinerary continues over the coming days, with a London show at The 02 tomorrow (Friday), one at the LG Arena, Birmingham on Saturday and then two at the Royal Albert Hall in London next Monday and Tuesday. The European dates then begin in Assago, Italy on May 28, in a huge run of shows stretching until July 31 in Barcelona, followed by a North American leg in September and October.

In this exclusive audio, you’ll hear Mark reveal some of his favourite cities from his previous world tours, in Europe and North America, and how each place conjures specific, fond memories for him and his band. He also discusses playing new material in the live set, and the possibility of working different songs from his catalogue into the show.

Knopfler concludes with some thoughts about how he approaches travelling and touring, and how it continues to be an essential part of his working life. Listen out for more audio conversation with him on uDiscover in the weeks ahead.

Love listening to MK. He’s such an uncomplicated person as his his music. Pure joy listening to him explain his songs, his ideas, feelings and stories. The guy is a genius in my opinion. Just wish he would tour Australia one day- I’m sure he’d love it

Well said Neil , I couldn’t find better words to describe Mark Knopfler ,
And I’m sure all his fans ( including me of course ) share the same opinion…..he is a genius by all means .
I haven’t listened to anything so beautiful as Tracker and I can’t decide which song is the best ! then I realized there are 17 best songs in this album !

The album is good, not as good as the last one, I like that skydiver/ long cool girl’ sometimes when mark “trys to be a singer” the effect can be ingratiating, mighty man , laughs etc… Musically I like beryl even if the lyrics are a little odd. When mark sings like in 5.15 & sonny the songs are really beautiful – as are silver town, singlehanded, donkeytown etc, songs that he doesn’t seem to pushed on to play live , he is prone to contradictory statements with regards to certain songs been “signposts in peoples lives” He’s not doing brothers on this tour as far as I know, when is the last time he did tunnel of love? He practically dismisses communique – which I find very irritating as I really love the lazy feel & island sound of that record, minor moan, nothing more , super musician “& a marvelous songwriter.
