Rumours that circulated some time ago that Paul McCartney was working with Kanye West have proved to be true. Paul announces on his website today (January 1) that he appears on ‘Only One,’ the new single by the rap superstar.
In marked contrast to West’s usual abrasive style, the song is a soft ballad dedicated to his daughter North, who was born in 2013. McCartney plays organ and sings some backing vocals on it.
Next to the above image of the two artists, taken by Dutch photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Paul says: “For any of you guys who were wondering what I was doing with Kanye…here it is: ‘Only One.’ “Happy rocking new year!” The song is available to download exclusively on iTunes.

Meanwhile, a recently-released clip takes viewers behind the making of the video for Paul’s current single ‘Hope For The Future,’ directed by Daniel Askill. The clip features McCartney explaining how he became involved in the project, in which he appears as a hologram. The single, which he wrote for the video game ‘Destiny,’ was produced by longtime Beatles producer George Martin’s son Giles.
Here’s the official video itself:
