Bingo Hand Job, Elton John, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, John Lennon and The Rolling Stones are just a smattering of the legendary artists with rare releases to their name for Record Store Day 2019.

2019 marks the 40th anniversary of Elton John’s historic first tour of Russia – he was the first Western rock star to ever perform in the country.  The show in Moscow, on 28 May 1979, also features Ray Cooper and was broadcast on BBC radio in the UK and it can now be savoured on Record Store Day 2019 as the double-disc, clear vinyl Live From Moscow.

Another RSD 2019 release liable to be much sought after is the enigmatic Bingo Hand Job’s Live At The Borderline 1991. For many years, no witnesses of a Bingo Hand Job gig could be found. No recordings existed. Yet, when it was announced that the enigmatic band and some unusual friends would play London’s 200-capacity club, The Borderline, on 14 and 15 March 1991, tickets were quickly sold out, traded and re-sold at unreasonable prices.

Who were these guys only known as The Doc, Raoul, Ophelia and Stinky (with friends Spanish Charlie, Conrad and Violet)? Legendary, colossal and now of mythical proportions, the second night – March 15, 1991 – is finally and officially released for the very first, and only time.

Also for the first time on vinyl is the legendary 1982 Newcastle BBC In Concert performance by Dexys Midnight Runners. A turning point in the band’s career the concert features a host of the finest Dexys tracks as well as introducing the audience to the band’s new “Celtic” sound, including ‘Geno’, ‘Let’s Make This Precious’, ‘Jackie Wilson Said’ and ‘The Celtic Soul Brothers’.  The concert introduces the Emerald Express string section and the audience are treated to the not heard before ‘Come On Eileen’ – listen to the reaction after. The LP set finishes with four tracks from a David Jensen session from the same year.

Additionally, The Rolling Stones have announced a brand new, limited-edition release, available to purchase for one day only on Record Store Day 2019. ‘She’s A Rainbow (Live)’ will be released as a special limited-edition coloured 10” vinyl. This previously unreleased, live version of the classic Stones track was recorded at Paris’ U Arena during the band’s ‘No Filter’ tour in October 2017.

As uDiscover Music previously reported, Pearl Jam are Record Store Day 2019 ambassadors and, in its 12th year, Record Store Day continues to champion the culture of the independent record store, offering music lovers the chance to pick up exclusive releases and support their favourite record store at the same time.

What about Badfinger: So Fine – The Warner Brothers Rarities (2 LP) ? Why not list ALL the forthcoming RSD releases, not just a partial listing?

Only Dusty Gems listed here from Weezer? What about Teal? This partial list just isn’t that helpful.

You are so correct. They are feeding our vinyl habit by ramping up the hype. Some will be disappointed as the prime cuts will be scarce and stock will be at the discretion of the shops, thereby creating rarities. Are we going to continue funding the Kline coffers in the case of the STONES? Of course we will. See you in the queue.
