Ryan Adams has shared a new track called ‘F__k The Rain’ which features guitarist John Mayer. The song features on Adams’ new album Big Colors, released through Capitol/Blue Note/Pax-Am on 19 April. You can hear it below.

The US musician, whose acclaimed 17th studio album Prisoner arrived in 2017, recently revealed that Big Colors is the first of three albums he’s intending to release this year. Having previously revealed ‘Doylestown Girl’ and the Johnny Marr-esque ‘Manchester’, Adams has now unveiled what is said to be the official lead single from the upcoming record.

The song’s wistful lyrics, buoyed by sun-soaked guitar, feel fit for midwinter, reminding us that spring is on its way. Adams sings imploringly for us to “f__k the rain, all that pain,” and instead seek “permanent sunshine.”

“Check out this song it’s cool,” said Adams in a press release. “Or don’t – we all might die. Trump is president. I love you, sincerely Ryan Adams.”

As uDiscover Music previously reported, Ryan Adams recently announced that he’ll be taking Big Colours on the road in Ireland and the UK this spring. The stint will begin with a show at Dublin’s Olympia on 31 March, with gigs also scheduled for London’s Royal Albert Hall along with shows in Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Sheffield, and Cambridge.

In addition to John Mayer, Big Colors features appearances from Bob Mould, Benmont Tench, Don Was, and the Section Quartet.

Don Was, who became president of the famous Blue Note in 2012, told Power Up: “I wish everyone could witness the awe-inspiring sight of Ryan Adams recording in the studio…the endless flow of brilliant ideas is mind blowing and he’s clearly tapped into the deepest reaches of the Creative Ether.

“His forthcoming album(s) elevate his art form to a whole new stratosphere and it’s an honor and a thrill for all of us at Blue Note Records to work with him. Oh yeah… one other thing: he’s the most underrated guitarist in rock n roll.”
