‘Amy’ – Watch The First Trailer

Published on

The first trailer has been released for the upcoming film about Amy Winehouse, ‘Amy.’ The documentary will be out in the UK and Ireland on July 3.

The clip shows footage of the British singer from an early age and throughout her development, with audio of her talking in interviews about her love of singing. She says that she never expects to be famous, before the clip cuts to the sound of cameras flashing and the clamour that surrounded her day and night before her tragic death in 2011, at the age of 27.
‘Amy,’ first announced in 2013, is directed by Asif Kapadia. The British director made the BAFTA Award-winning ‘Senna’ documentary, about the late racing driver Ayrton Senna. The Winehouse film will be distributed in the UK by Altitude, and will include previously unseen footage and unheard tracks.

The 90-minute documentary is produced by James Gay-Rees, through Playmaker Films. A statement from Kapadia and Gay-Rees observed: “This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can.

“Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone’s attention. She wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell. But tragically, Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us.”
