Today sees the launch of the world’s first global poll of living classical musicians – The uDiscover Classical 100.
A shortlist of 100 artists has been compiled using sales data from around the world. The uDiscover Classical 100 includes classical greats such as superstar pianists Lang Lang and Yuja Wang, cellists Yo-Yo Ma and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, composers John Williams and Max Richter, as well as singers Andrea Bocelli and Renée Fleming.
Classical music fans from around the world will be able to vote for up to five artists and voting will be open until 31 January 2021. Everyone who votes in the classical poll will be entered into a prize draw to win £250 in uDiscover Music Store vouchers and five runners up will each win a £50 voucher.
The uDiscover Classical 100 aims to shine a light on today’s leading musicians, from established conductors like Sir Simon Rattle and Gustavo Dudamel to ground-breaking young artists like Nicola Benedetti and Vikingur Ólafsson.
Sam Jackson, Executive Vice President of Global Classics and Jazz, Universal Music Group, said: “Charts that focus on repertoire or composers are well established in the classical music world, but this is the first time a global poll has been created to confirm the world’s favourite classical artist. The uDiscover Classical 100 offers a chance to set this right, as we invite thousands of music fans across the globe to vote for the performers whose recordings and artistry they admire the most.”
The poll is also a way to celebrate the power of classical music in a year which has proved very challenging for the industry, with concerts – and in some cases whole orchestral seasons – being cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Voting is open now, until Sunday 31 January 2021, and the winning artist will be announced in February 2021. Vote for your favourite artist in The uDiscover Classical 100!
