Lana Del Rey Appears On ‘Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark’ Soundtrack

Lana Del Rey has teased her cover’s Donavan’s psychedelic single, ‘Season Of The Witch’ for the upcoming adaptation of everyone’s favourite childhood horror book, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz.
This marks the second recent cover by the alt.pop star, who released her version of Sublime’s ‘Doin Time’ that will appear on her forthcoming album, Norman F__king Rockwell, set for release on 30 August.

Del Rey will also be presenting acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro with his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame tomorrow. Del Toro is producing the film, alongside director André Øvredal.
Along with Del Rey’s cover of the 1966 single, the soundtrack also features an original score composed by Marco Beltrami (Velvet Buzzsaw, A Quiet Place).
“From the very first screening it was clear that the film already had a very specific atmosphere and style, as well as a clear artistic message. Music just had to intensify all these and go together with what was there already,” the project’s composer, Anna Drubich told Forbes in a recent interview.
“Guillermo and Andre were convinced that music was going to be a crucial element in bringing everything together. And after watching the director’s cut, Marco [Beltrami] and I looked at each other and realised that it needed a ghoulish and orchestral kind of score. I mean, the movie felt like an homage to Spielberg’s Amblin movies and other great old films
“There are a couple of 60’s-era songs,” she continued. “Plus, these beautiful long melodies and motifs that feel like a 60s thing [and] really evoke the retro setting.”
The film not only adapts Schwartz’s tales of terror, but the nightmare-inducing illustrations by Stephen Gammell.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will hit theatres on 9 August 2019, and stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn and Dean Norris.
