Country heroes Little Big Town have unveiled their new single ‘Over Drinking,’ another remarkable creative step forward in the quartet’s distinguished catalogue. The band produced it themselves, and the song was written by Cary Barlowe, Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley, Steph Jones and Hillary Lindsey. Details about LBT’s new album, their follow-up to February 2017’s The Breaker, will follow soon.
‘Over Drinking’ is a contemporary take on the traditional Nashville barroom ballad, set in 4/4 time to powerful lead and harmony vocals, lead guitar and pedal steel detail. As the lyrics say: “Yeah, I’m over drinking, over you/I’m done with bottles of chasing the blues/I’ll still go out with the boys and knock back a few/But I’m over drinking, over you.”

The new song comes in the wake of their last single release, the typically adventurous ‘The Daughters,’ which emerged in April. Little Big Town have live shows this month in Michigan, Kentucky and Connecticut, and another announced in Oklahoma in November. Their recent run of shows followed recording sessions for the upcoming album, as the band shared images on social media and hinted at the new material.
The group’s Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild recently teamed up with emerging country name Ingrid Andress to record an acoustic cover of the Dixie Chicks’ ‘Wide Open Spaces’ for Cracker Barrel Old Country Store’s new initiative Five Decades, One Voice.
Little Big Town are nominated for Vocal Group of the Year, which they have won three times before, at the 53rd annual CMA Awards, to take place on 13 November at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. They tweeted after the nominations announcement that they were “so grateful to be a part of this country music family.”
The quartet are shortlisted for the award alongside Lady Antebellum, Midland, Old Dominion and the Zac Brown Band. The awards, as recently reported by uDiscover Music, will this year be hosted by Carrie Underwood with Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire.
