World-renown DJ and producer Marshmello and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Demi Lovato have joined forces on their new collaboration “Ok Not To Be Ok” via Island Records and Joytime Collective. The track comes with a hope-fueled visual, directed by Hannah Lux Davis.

The video shows Lovato and Marshmello waking up in their childhood bedrooms adorned with music posters and memorabilia from their past. Written by Marshmello, Lovato, Gregory Hein, James Gutch, and James Nicholas Bailey, “Ok Not To Be Ok” is a reassuring anthem that challenges self-doubt and reminds listeners – and the artist duo’s insecure younger selves – not to “get lost in the moment or give up when you’re closest, all you need is somebody to say, it’s okay to not be okay.”

The release of the new single was carefully timed with Global Suicide Prevention Day and the announcement of both artists’ partnership with Hope For The Day, a non-profit movement advocating for proactive suicide prevention and mental health education.

“We are excited to be teaming up with Demi Lovato and Marshmello on this project to break the stigma around mental health on world suicide prevention day,” said Hope For The Day Founder and CEO, Jonny Boucher.

“Hope for the Day’s work in suicide prevention and mental health education thrives when we collaborate with others and what better than two of the largest artists in the world to work with on a track that reminds everyone, it’s OK not to be OK.”

Lovato has been vocal about mental health awareness throughout her career, and most explicitly in her documentary Simply Complicated, and an essay published in Vogue discussing her own personal encounters and challenges.

Earlier this year, she released “I Love Me,” another power anthem encouraging self-love and acceptance. Similarly, Marshmello’s recent collaboration with Halsey, “Be Kind,” encourages vulnerability and acceptance. He has previously partnered with the Kids In Need of Defense Foundation to provide awareness and resources to refugee and immigrant children.
