Luciano Pavarotti’s ‘The Lost Concert’ Gets Release

A historic concert from Luciano Pavarotti is getting released on 2 disc CD and vinyl. The Lost Concert was filmed and recorded live from North Wales’ Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in 1995. Released on audio for the very first time, The Lost Concert ships on November 14.
The concert marked 40 years since Pavarotti and his fellow choir members from Modena won First Prize in the Choral Competition at the International Eisteddfod in 1955. Before a packed Pavilion crowd, Pavarotti reflected: “Forty years ago, my God — it seems to be just yesterday for me. I have done so many things. I always say to the journalists when they ask me what is the most memorable day in my life, and I always say it is when I won this competition, because it was with all my friends.”
Conducted by Leone Magiera and recorded with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Pavarotti performed with the Corale Rossini, and soprano Atzuko Kawahara. The recording features seventy-five minutes of a remastered programme with operatic arias from Cavalleria Rusticana, Il trovatore, Macbeth, Manon Lescaut and La traviata, and popular Neapolitan song. The collection also features two tracks, “Bonjour mon cœur” and “In Nomine Jesu,” recorded in 1955, thought to be the earliest recordings with Pavarotti – plus a special audio interview with Pavarotti recalling his choir’s competition win.
Both editions arrive with a 100-page LP-sized book, detailing the history of the concert, interviews; rare historic photos; a new biography of Pavarotti; and more. A film version of The Lost Concert will also be available on BluRay.
The release is part of the year-long PAVAROTTI 90 festivities celebrating the 90th anniversary of the legendary opera singer’s birth. PAVAROTTI 90 will see the release of Novanta, a 74-track career-spanning compilation. Out Oct. 10, Novanta includes Pavarotti’s earliest studio recordings, duets with fellow superstars including Bono, Elton John, and Andrea Bocelli, and rare performances from Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal.
