La Roux Shares ‘Lose Myself’ From ‘Old Flames’
The track explores self-medication following the singer’s auADHD diagnosis and an effort to break an addictive cycle.
La Roux has shared “Lose Myself,” the latest single from her fourth album, Old Flames, which is due November 6 on Vertigo/Casablanca Records. The track examines weed dependency, which La Roux says she came to understand as a form of self-medication after an auADHD diagnosis. Its central conflict is the pull between wanting to escape and wanting to break a cycle of dependence.

Musically, “Lose Myself” draws on the high-drama sound of mid-1990s pop, setting its heavier subject matter against a direct, melodic chorus. “‘Lose Myself’ is me battling between the angel and the devil on my shoulder,” she said. “The verses are me struggling to kick my addiction and show up for myself and the choruses are like me wanting to give up on the whole thing and just get lost.” She added that the song is ultimately about finding enough self-respect to move beyond that cycle.
The single follows “Babyline” and “Cabin Fever,” two earlier previews of Old Flames. “Babyline” centers on finding a way back to yourself after a period of hiding, while “Cabin Fever” takes its inspiration from isolation, La Roux’s jeep and summertime rain. Together, the three songs trace different points in the album’s wider story, with “Lose Myself” positioned between the isolation of “Cabin Fever” and the lighter outlook of “Babyline.” La Roux composed, wrote, produced and arranged Old Flames, which addresses the end of a 17-year relationship, forbidden love, addiction, sexuality and identity. She has described the record as a way of processing past behavior and “saying goodbye to it.”
The new material arrives after La Roux opened for Hilary Duff on a U.S. run that included the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York.
