Nearly four decades later, The Seeds Of Love stands as one of Tears For Fears’ most remarkable achievements. Now, the new wave icons’ 1989 classic is getting the deluxe reissue treatment. The album will be re-released in multiple formats Oct. 16, including various vinyl editions, a 3CD set, and a limited edition Blu-Ray.

Tears For Fears spent four years making The Seeds Of Love, the follow-up to 1985’s world-conquering Songs From The Big Chair. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith’s toil paid off in the form of a No. 1 debut in the UK, Platinum status on both sides of the Atlantic, and a string of hit singles including “Sowing The Seeds Of Love,” “Woman In Chains,” and “Advice For The Young At Heart” plus album centerpiece “Bad Man’s Song.”

“Out of all our albums, I’d probably rank it highest,” Orzabel says. “I think it surprised a lot of people, a lot of our peers as well, people who maybe we were being compared to in the mid-eighties.” Curt Smith adds, “The tracks I liked then, I still like now. ‘Woman In Chains,’ ‘Bad Man’s Song,’ ‘Sowing The Seeds Of Love,’ and ‘Advice For The Young At Heart’ have all stuck around. We still play those live.”

Headlining the deluxe vinyl editions is a 2LP marbled blue vinyl version with alternate artwork. One LP features the original album; the other has B-sides, demos, and rare recordings, some of which are appearing on vinyl for the first time. Additionally, Tears For Fears are releasing a limited edition 1LP edition on sunburst orange and red vinyl, featuring Steven Wilson’s new stereo mix. There’s also a 1LP version featuring a remaster by Jon Astley and cut at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road.

The 3CD version features the most robust assortment of tracks, including the original remastered album, B-sides, radio edits, alternate mixes, and rare recordings from The Seeds Of Love era, packaged in a deluxe digipack with interviews and commentary. Finally, a limited edition Blu-Ray, exclusive to superdeluxeedition.com, assembles a range of Wilson’s mixes plus bonus material from the Townhouse Live Jam Sessions, recorded in 1988 at London’s Townhouse Studios.
