mor Releases A Defiant New Song, ‘Father’s Ending’

mor has released “Father’s Ending” via Capitol Records Nashville. The acoustic-led song, co-written with Brian Stanley and Ryan Levine and produced by Andrew Wells, addresses years of comparisons between the 23-year-old singer and his father, with mor rejecting the idea that his family history determines his future.
Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, mor sings about the distance he sees between himself and his father and refuses to be defined by “the blood that I come from.” The track follows the independently released singles “Strong” and “Fill My Lungs,” which also draw on experiences of family loss and upheaval.
mor’s family story is a tragic one. His father murdered his mother when mor was two and was imprisoned for 15 years; mor was raised by his grandmother as well as his aunt and uncle. He said a later family conversation directly prompted the chorus: “So, after a call with someone in my family who told me I was just like my dad, I hung up the phone and immediately wrote the chorus to ‘Father’s Ending.’” He added that he wanted the song to reach listeners dealing with similar experiences and help them feel seen.

A video directed by Harrison Shook places mor at a campfire on the water’s edge before he enters the lake, where the imagery turns to blood as he faces fears tied to his past. The visual draws on campfire storytelling while extending the song’s themes of inheritance and separation.
mor is currently opening for Brenn! on a North American tour, with a show at Philadelphia’s Theatre of Living Arts on September 25 and Irving Plaza in New York City on September 26. The run is scheduled to end at Exit/In in Nashville on October 10. Earlier this year, mor supported Buffalo Traffic Jam and opened for Tristan Trincado.
