Sydney Rose Revisits High School Betrayal On ‘My First Time’
The five-track Mercury Records project arrives October 16, following new single ‘My First Time.’
Sydney Rose has released a new single, “My First Time,” and announced her five-track EP It Was My First Time, due October 16 via Mercury Records. The song arrives with an official music video and follows the singer-songwriter’s summer release “Track Team,” which helped introduce the forthcoming project.

“My First Time” looks back on a high school friendship that turned painful after Rose fell in love with a close friend and felt she had been led on. Its lyrics focus on the confusion and hurt that followed the relationship, including the line, “You were my friend and you hurt me.”
The EP announcement follows “Track Team,” which has surpassed one million total streams, according to a press release. Rose is currently supporting Mon Rovîa on a U.S. tour through October 13, when the run is scheduled to conclude at Showbox Sodo in Seattle. Earlier this year, she marked the first anniversary of the song “We Hug Now” with a live performance release. The tune has approached 250 million global streams and received Gold certification from the RIAA, while also reaching the Top 3 on Spotify’s U.S. and Global Viral 50 charts.
“We Hug Now” was part of Rose’s 2025 breakthrough around the release of her I Know What I Want EP. She also reached the Top 20 of Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart and the Top 10 of its Hot Alternative Songs chart, while her monthly Spotify audience passed five million listeners. In 2025, she performed at BST Hyde Park on a bill that included Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams and FINNEAS, later completing sold-out I Know What I Want tour dates across Europe and the U.S. Earlier in 2026, Rose also completed an Australian headline tour.
