Ethan French Releases ‘ideas of the day vol. 1’
The collection includes short musical sketches and completed songs, alongside the BJ the Chicago Kid collaboration ‘way that i do – day 32.’
Ethan French has released ideas of the day vol. 1, a 25-track project developed from his ongoing practice of writing and sharing a new piece of music each day. The collection includes both short sketches and more fully developed songs, all written, tracked, and mixed as part of the daily process.
The project grew out of French’s “Idea A Day” series, which he began on Instagram at the start of the year with the goal of sharing music every day regardless of how complete an individual piece felt. French said the approach changed the way he thought about writing. “I think I’ve enjoyed the creative process on this project more than I ever have,” he said. “I’ve learned that when I place less pressure on each individual idea, it actually improves the quality of my writing. There’s a real risk of making things worse when you obsess over them for too long.”

Alongside the project, French has shared “way that i do – day 32,” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid. The collaboration developed after BJ commented on the original video for French’s day 32 idea and expressed interest in working together. The collection also features previously released material including “sticks and stones to telephones – day 52,” an extended version of “reckless and arranged – day 56,” “it takes a lifetime – day 58,” “fake it till you make it – day 42,” and “sight of me – day 10.” Across its 25 tracks, the material moves between personal perspectives and observations about people around him, with creativity and identity recurring throughout the collection.
