Stephan Moccio Releases New Single ‘Daydream Damsel’
The new track draws on Moccio’s years playing piano at Toronto’s Four Seasons hotel.
Stephan Moccio has released the new single “Daydream Damsel,” a thematic continuation of his latest album, Scenes From A Velvet Room. The song returns to the period when Moccio played piano six nights a week in the lobby of the Four Seasons Toronto, before his later career as a songwriter and composer.
“Daydream Damsel” centers on a hotel guest named Barbara, whom Moccio remembers as repeatedly waiting for someone to arrive. The encounter became the basis for the new piece. “Barbara was her real name, she dressed for a premiere that never came, eyes fixed on the door as if it were a silver screen..,” Moccio said.

Released in June, Scenes From A Velvet Room also looks back on Moccio’s time as a lounge pianist around the turn of the millennium. He has described the Four Seasons job as an education in reading a room, responding to an audience and understanding how music can function within a shared space. “I was the guy who was always behind the scenes,” Moccio said of that period.
Before focusing on his own recordings, Moccio built a songwriting catalog that includes Celine Dion’s “A New Day Has Come,” Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and The Weeknd’s “Earned It.” He also co-wrote “I Believe,” the theme song associated with the 2010 Winter Olympics. His solo catalog began with Tales of Solace, followed by Lionheart in 2021 and Legends, Myths, and Lavender in 2024.
