Thank You was released August 28 via Capitol Records. The video continues a creative relationship that dates to Marcopoulos photographing Beastie Boys around the time of Check Your Head and Ill Communication. In his post about the video’s creation, Mike D reflected on the photographer and director’s place within the group’s creative circle.
Mike D said Marcopoulos “became part of our creative family. He was just embedded in our whole world…” He also explained what he takes from his friend’s approach to making and sharing art: “Personally, I love how he is committed to not only making the work, but releasing it. Sometimes tirelessly self-publishing his art. It’s inspiring to me. It’s all we can do as people that make stuff: show up, keep trying things and putting it out into the world.”
Mike D 5D’s worldwide Thank You tour resumes October 16 at Chicago’s Riviera Theater. The itinerary continues across the Northeast before returning to the UK and Europe, with the tour set to conclude in Brussels, Belgium.
