Teenaged alt.pop phenomenon Billie Eilish released a moving video of her live performance of ‘I Love You’ at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on 11 July.
Eilish was joined by her older brother Finneas, her main collaborator and producer, as the two harmonised on her song ‘I Love You’, off her record-breaking debut, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?.
With just Eilish’s unadorned vocals and Finneas guitar, the two perform on a bed as it rises into the air, just as thousands of young fans lift their smartphones in the air, today’s equivalent of raising your lighter.
“This song we’re about to do is one of our favourites we’ve ever written,” Eilish explained before the performance. “We wrote it on my bed at 3 am like this, so we’re gonna perform it like this for you.”
As the song intensifies, the bed floats further into the air, flanked by a giant moon, and the camera cuts to the emotional crowd below.
Eilish has essentially become the face of Generation Z and has the rabid fanbase to prove it. Last week, she joined Alanis Morissette and Sinead O’Connor as the only solo women with multiple Alternative Songs No. 1s, reported Billboard.
Eilish also recently graced the cover of Rolling Stone, just one of the many accolades the 17-year-old has experienced this year. Her debut album premiered at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and she recently took home two awards at Teen Choice Awards for Choice Female Artist and Choice Breakout Artist.
The singer-songwriter also celebrated the two-year anniversary of her 2017 EP, don’t smile at me, which is now available on CD.
The multi-platinum artist now heads oversees to play the Frequency Festival in Austria on 15 August and continues her tour though Europe, with dates throughout August and September before she returns to the states to play the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta on 14 September and the Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas.
