The Damned have released “Manipulator”, the second single to be taken from their forthcoming EP, ‘The Rockfield Files’. You can check the track out below.
During 1980 and 1981, The Damned went to Rockfield Studios in South Wales for a series of sessions that eventually became The Black Album, ‘The Friday 13th EP’ & Strawberries. Their time at the studio produced some of the band’s greatest musical moments and memorable stories of horses, cows, vampires, rifles and Lemmy.
In 2019 The Damned returned to Rockfield Studios to record the first new music since 2018’s Top Ten Evil Spirits album, which was produced by Tony Visconti. Evil Spirits became The Damned’s first album to make the top 10 on the United Kingdom’s Official Charts, landing at No. 7. The record also received a ream of positive reviews. PopMatters said, “Evil Spirits is a strong, weirdly timeless album. It’s hard to pin this record down to a point in time – it certainly doesn’t sound like 2018, but it sure as eggs are eggs doesn’t sound like it’s from 1978 either.”
The line-up for ‘The Rockfield Files’ EP included three out of the four Damned members that were at the original early 80s sessions – David Vanian, Captain Sensible & Paul Gray. There was also Monty Oxymoron on keyboards and Pinch on drums. Unbeknown to the band, this was to be the last recordings with the long-time drummer Pinch, who departed The Damned after their legendary show at The London Palladium, last Halloween.
For the first time, Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Rammstein, Ghost) took over the production duties for the EP. Dalgety also mixed the tracks at his studio in Bath.
‘The Rockfield Files’ EP will be released through Search And Destroy/Spinefarm Records on October 16. It will be available in black and psychedelic swirl limited-edition vinyl and includes the following tracks:
“Keep ‘Em Alive”
“The Spider & The Fly”
“Black Is The Night”.
