Listen To Elysia Biro’s New Single ‘Clever’
Biro wrote the piano-led track alone in her London room before its arrangement gradually expanded.
Elysia Biro has released her new single “Clever” via Universal Music Canada and Deutsche Grammophon. Written alone at the piano in her London room, the track begins with a spare setup before gradually expanding, a structure Biro says reflects how both she and the song changed after its initial writing.

“It was important to me to match the intimacy of the instrumentation with how it was written – alone at the piano in my room in London,” Biro said. “It starts that way and then slowly progresses, mirroring how I and the song have evolved since the day I wrote it.” Biro has cited Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell among her formative influences, and “Clever” continues the piano-led jazz-pop approach that runs through her recent work.
Lyrically, the song focuses on recognizing a push-pull relationship after becoming emotionally invested in it. “’Clever’ is about someone who wants to be in your life but as soon as you accept them in, they no longer want to be around,” Biro said.
During 2026, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter and pianist has performed at Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, The Great Escape Festival, the Toronto International Jazz Festival and the Montréal International Jazz Festival.
Last week, Biro released the four-track holiday EP It’s Always Christmas With You. The set includes the original title track alongside “The Christmas Song (Cheery & Bright),” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” In November, she is scheduled to join Stephen Day for a run of U.S. tour dates.
