Mergui Releases ‘GF’ Ahead of ‘Gut Feeling’ EP
The single explores the uncertainty of falling for someone and deciding to take a chance.
Mergui has released “GF,” the second single from his forthcoming EP, Gut Feeling, due November 20. The song centers on the uncertainty of falling for someone and choosing to pursue the relationship without knowing how it will turn out.

Mergui said the song draws on his instinct to make decisions based on feeling, in relationships and elsewhere. “Sometimes you have absolutely no idea if something’s gonna work out, but something in you just tells you to go for it anyway,” he said. He described a long-distance relationship as one example: “What proof do you have that it’s gonna work? Literally none. But something in you tells you it’s worth a shot, so you go for it.”
“GF” follows “Spotlight,” the first single from Gut Feeling. Executive produced by Jesse Shatkin, whose credits include Sia and Charlie Puth, the EP traces the emotional arc of a relationship and the stages involved in choosing someone. AJ Mitchell, Salem Ilese, and Whitney Phillips contributed writing.
Earlier this year, Mergui released “3 Tears,” written with Amy Allen and Andrew Wells, followed by “Alien” this summer. He performed “Alien” on the TODAY Show. His recent releases also include “LIVING ROOM,” a collaboration with maryjo, and covers of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and A Great Big World’s “Say Something.”
