Eight Producers Rework Nina Simone for New Verve Compilation
The October 16 collection brings eight electronic producers together for the label’s year-long campaign.
Verve Records has announced the penultimate release in its Year of Nina campaign, Verve Remixed // Nina Simone, a compilation centered on new electronic interpretations of Nina Simone recordings. The album will be released October 16 digitally and on vinyl. Its contributors span the house, dance, and electronic music worlds, with remixes from Antdot, HAAi, Mochakk, Solomun, DESIREE, Austin Millz, dublon, and Supershy.
The vinyl edition will feature eight tracks, including extended versions of select remixes from the series. It will be pressed on a smoky deep burgundy color blend and released ahead of the holiday season. Across the project, the participating producers work from Simone’s original recordings while moving them into contemporary club and electronic settings. The compilation also serves as the latest entry in Verve Remixed, the label’s series built around new interpretations of recordings from its catalog.
Simone has been part of Verve Remixed since the series began in 2002. The first volume included Joe Claussell’s remix of “Feelin’ Good” and Masters At Work’s remix of “See-Line Woman.” The 2003 second volume featured Felix Da Housecat’s “Sinnerman” remix and Jaffa’s take on “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair,” while the 2005 third volume included remixes of “Little Girl Blue” and “Lilac Wine.” Verve Remixed 4 returned to Simone in 2008 with Mike Mangini’s “Gimme Some” remix and Pilooski’s “Take Care of Business” remix. The 2013 Verve Remixed: The First Ladies included further reworks by Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, and Pretty Lights. Verve relaunched the series in 2025 after a 12-year break with Verve Remixed: The Hits. The label, founded in 1956, is marking its 70th anniversary in 2026.
The Year of Nina remix run began on February 20 with Solomun’s “Take Care Of Business (Solomun Mix).” DESIREE’s “Four Women (DESIREE Remix)” followed on March 19, with Supershy’s “Baltimore (Live) (Supershy Remix)” arriving April 17 and Mochakk’s “See-Line Woman (Mochakk Mix)” on May 15. HAAi released “That’s All I Ask (HAAi Remix)” on June 12, dublon’s “Tell Me More And More And Then Some (dublon Remix)” followed July 10, and Antdot’s “Work Song (Antdot Remix)” arrived August 14.
