OK Go Share Behind The Scenes Look At ‘Here It Goes Again’ With Vevo Footnotes
The band is gearing up to reissue their 2005 standout LP ‘Oh No.’
OK Go have teamed up with Vevo Footnotes to offer a behind the scenes look at one of the most celebrated music videos ever released, “Here It Goes Again.”
The famous clip features the band going through a highly intricate treadmill dance routine, which they revealed took quite some time to film. The BTS look begins with the band explaining that, “The whole process took ten days. The first four days we set up the treadmills and tried to figure out the vocabulary of moves to work with—basically trial and error.”
They added: “The next four days we sequenced those moves into a sequential choreography. The last 2 days we just ran takes over and over until we got a good one.”
Vocalist Damian Kulash explained that the final version of the video included a mistake. “The take we used—I think it was take 17—was the closest to perfect that we got. And the one really noticeable mess up is when I stumble during the ‘Jamiroquai’ spin. That was sort of my signature move. That take is the only one where I biffed it, and it’s like a little stab in the heart.”
The mistake, though, he added, is part of the fun: “But it’s the best overall take. And with some distance I recognize that the little mistakes are kind of the whole point, so I’ve forgiven myself.”
The band also touched on experiencing a very early viral experience. The video was a massive sensation, and it broke through at a time when these sort of sensations were far more rare. “The very concept of things going viral was just being born,” the band explained, “so doing something genuinely clever and engaging in that mode was a different kind of shock than anything that could happen now.”
The new Footnotes collaboration comes as the band is gearing up to reissue 2005’s Oh No, the album that features “Here It Goes Again.” The reissue will be released on Brick Red 1LP, standard black 1LP, and CD. The Brick Red vinyl reissue features alternate artwork and the bonus track “Down For The Count.”
