Miranda Lambert Shares ‘Two Things Can Be True’

Miranda Lambert has released “Two Things Can Be True,” the latest song from her forthcoming album Crisco, which is due October 2 via MCA. The track is the fifth advance release from the 12-song project, following the title track, “Sunset Marquis,” “Till The Going’s Gone” and “A Song To Sing,” her Grammy-nominated duet with Chris Stapleton.

“Two Things Can Be True” centers on a relationship in which affection and separation coexist, with the lyric describing a partner who appears emotionally elsewhere while the relationship continues. Its central image is a partner whose words suggest commitment while his eyes indicate otherwise. Lambert sings in a lower register over an arrangement built around steel guitar and strings. Lambert called the track “probably my favorite song on the record right now,” adding, “There’s something about it that feels almost like singing a duet with the steel and strings, and it’s country through and through with an old-school Patsy Cline feeling.” She also said the song “found its own little corner” within the album.
Lambert co-produced Crisco with Jesse Frasure. Across its 12 tracks, the album draws on country traditions while also referencing the genre’s shared history with disco music. Its songs move through themes including heartbreak, romance, highways and honky-tonks, with the project also using imagery associated with rhinestones and roller skating.
The release comes during a period in which Lambert has also received recognition as a songwriter and producer. She earned seven CMA Award nominations spanning those roles as well as her work as an artist, including recognition connected to Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas.” Lambert co-wrote and co-produced “Choosin’ Texas,” which the release says this week tied the all-time record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
