Bill Wyman Documentary ‘The Quiet One’ Trailer Premieres
Described as “a first-hand journey through Wyman’s extraordinary experiences,” The Quiet One spans his three-decade career as a founding member of and bassist for The Rolling Stones.
A new trailer for the forthcoming documentary The Quiet One, that explores the life of former Rolling Stones’ bassist Bill Wyman has been released before the film hits theatres 21 June.
Alongside some of the more larger-than-life personalities in the band, Wyman may be considered the “quiet one” but his personal archive of unseen film and photos have a lot to say.
Described as “a first-hand journey through Wyman’s extraordinary experiences,” The Quiet One spans his three-decade career as a founding member of and bassist for The Rolling Stones.
“If I want to know what I did in those years, I have to ask Bill Wyman,” says guitarist Keith Richards in the trailer.
Wyman was not the Stones’ first bass player, joining the band a few months after their initial formation in 1962, but he was there during the band’s meteoric rise to fame all the way to their Steel Wheels tour 30 years later.
As it says in the trailer, Wyman was an early adopter of technology, capturing every moment of the band’s journey through photos and home movies. Much of his archive was the basis for his 2002 book, Rolling With the Stones and now Wyman opens up his private vault again for the new film.
Wyman also kept a diary during this time and many of these entries also make their way into the film, along with a series of new interviews featuring Eric Clapton, Andrew Loog Oldham, Bob Geldof, producer Glynn Johns and Mary Wilson of the Supremes.
Unlike many of his bandmates, Wyman didn’t share the same zest for the more hedonistic lifestyle and was a good seven years their senior. His second solo album and first memoir were both titled A Stone Alone, highlighting the isolation that Wyman experienced.
Ever the reluctant rock star, Wyman has always been more comfortable sharing his experiences on the page, having published seven books after leaving the Stones in 1992, but has remained the band’s most dedicated archivist.
“It’s very difficult to keep your sanity,” Wyman says in the trailer.
The Oliver Murray-directed film made its premiere at Tribeca Film Festival and will head to theatres on 21 June.
