Singer-Songwriter-Actor Johnny Flynn Reissues Debut Album ‘A Larum’

South African-born, British singer-songwriter and actor Johnny Flynn today (2) announces the vinyl reissue of his 2008 debut album A Larum, on Transgressive Records/UMG on 11 October.

The record has been fetching dizzying prices among collectors and fans and will now be available on vinyl along with the rest of Flynn’s catalogue. A Larum was greeted with rave reviews when it first appeared, described by The Observer as being “steeped in the lo-fi folk tradition…with magical results.” The Independent said it was a “masterclass”, while Rolling Stone wrote that it possessed “natural magic.”

Flynn will mark the reissue with a one-off, solo in-store appearance at Rough Trade East on 18 October, which form part of Transgressive Records’ 15th birthday celebrations. His last major appearance in London was a sold out show at the Roundhouse, where a show celebrating his own first ten years was captured for 2018’s Live at The Roundhouse triple LP.

As an actor, Flynn has twice been nominated for an Olivier Award alongside Mark Rylance in Jerusalem, and for an Ian Charleson award as Viola in Twelfth Night, also with Rylance. He won a Theatre World award and was nominated for a Drama Desk award as Mooney in the Olivier award-winning Hangmen and opposite Kit Harington in Sam Shepard’s True West, for which he also wrote the score.

Flynn’s most recent film work cast him opposite Jessie Buckley in the BAFTA Award-winning Beast. His portrayal of Einstein in National Geographic’s Genius earned a Critics’ Choice Award and he’s also starring in the forthcoming films Emma, Cordelia and as David Bowie in Stardust. He’s written the scores for productions for the Globe and Royal Court Theatres and in the West End, as well as for various film and TV projects, including the music for the BBC4 comedy Detectorists.
