The EP takes its title from a vine native to Virginia known for its rapid growth. Its tracks bring together Nettspend and frequent collaborators including CXO, zoot, zuro, exset, 1Deep and rapper Che. “same language,” the opener, pairs a near-ambient sound with lyrics about the rapper’s rise. “Get Guap” moves into darker territory, with eerie synths and growling vocals.
“LL50” is a tribute to Nettspend’s late friend and fellow artist BloodHound Q50. At III Points, Nettspend played the track twice. Produced by CXO, it layers an electronic, game-like sound over heavy bass as Nettspend reflects on loyalty and his success. The tracklist also includes “6weeks,” “nite nite” and “JSX.”
The release follows early life crisis, Nettspend’s March album, which reached No. 2 on Spotify’s U.S. and Global Top Albums charts, according to the supplied release. That project included “who tf is u” and “masked up,” a collaboration with YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Its songs addressed pressure and anxiety as the rapper moved toward adulthood.
In August, Nettspend released “sober,” a more vulnerable single produced by reklus1ve. Its black-and-white video featured his mother and collaborator OsamaSon. He also recently released “KickAss (Pull Up Pls)” with Che and appeared alongside producer Evilgiane during a Boiler Room set in Los Angeles. Virginia Creeper adds another collection of new material to a year that has included both a full-length album and several collaborations.
