Icelandic folk-rock outfit Of Monsters and Men recently stopped by Australian radio station Triple J where they covered Post Malone’s No.1 hit ‘Circles’.
Their stripped-back, effusive rendition slows down the tempo and adds beautiful vocal harmonies, making the song their own.
The band’s choice of covers is particularly timely, as Malone’s ‘Circles’ returns to the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week (charted dated 11 January) after it first debuted on 25 November 25. ‘Circles’ became Post Malone’s fourth No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and his first as the only credited artist on a track.
The band were also on hand to perform their latest single ‘Alligator’ off their critically acclaimed album Fever Dream. Initially released in July, Fever Dream debuted at No.1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart.
Of Monsters and Men continue their Fever Dream World Tour, with dates throughout Asia in January before heading to the US in May to play the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, Georgia on 1 May. The group is playing a number of festivals this summer including Bottlerock in California, Hurricane Festival in Germany, Lollapalooza in Stockholm and Ilosaarirock Festival in Finland, among others.
The group also recently dropped a new animated music video for the single ‘Wars’ in December. Explaining the trippy visual the band said:
“The visuals for our album Fever Dream are inspired by other worldly, dreamy, horror-esc themes. For the ‘Wars’ video we wanted to continually build on those themes while also keeping it carefree and fun. Making an animated video felt like the perfect way to go. We reunited with the amazing and creative duo WeWereMonkeys who we’ve collaborated in the past with on videos for ‘Little Talks’ and ‘King and Lionheart’. ‘Wars’ is about the “war” between your conscious and your subconscious and the video captures what it’s like to be pulled between those two worlds.”
