The following 11 North American shows on Eilish’s ‘Where Do We Go?’ trek are affected: 13 March in Philadelphia; 15 March in New York City; 16 March in Newark, New Jersey; 18 March in Washington D.C.; 19 March in Boston; 20 March in Brooklyn; 23 March in Detroit; 24 March in Chicago; 25 March in Indianapolis; 27 March in Nashville and 28 March in St. Louis.

“I’m so sad to do this, but we need to postpone these dates to keep everyone safe,” Eilish tweeted on Thursday evening. “We’ll let you know when they can be rescheduled. Please keep yourselves healthy. I love you.”

All tickets for those concerts will be honoured for the new dates. Details are expected to be announced soon.

The postponement of Billie Eilish’s shows arrives after Live Nation and AEG, two of the world’s biggest concert promoters, decided to halt all large-scale tours until April due to the coronavirus pandemic. Live Nation told its employees that the suspension will be effective immediately, excluding a few shows booked for Thursday and Friday.

“The world’s leading forces in live entertainment have come together to form a global task force to drive strategic support and unified direction, ensuring precautionary efforts and ongoing protocol are in the best interest of artists, fans, staff, and the global community,” the coalition said in a joint statement. “At this time, we collectively recommend large-scale events through the end of March be postponed. We continue to support that small-scale events follow guidance set by their local government officials. We feel fortunate to have the flexibility to reschedule concerts, festivals, and live events as needed, and look forward to connecting fans with all their favourite artists and live entertainment soon.”

The announcement comes at a time when the live-music industry is bracing for impact. The spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus that the World Health Organization recently declared a pandemic, has prompted government officials to limit large public gatherings. The South by Southwest festival was cancelled last week over worries about large crowds, Coachella was postponed, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Thursday that gatherings of more than 500 people would be restricted in the state, just ahead of Billie Eilish’s concert at Madison Square Garden.
