Little Big Town have released their new version of Hank Williams’ perennial favourite “Jambalaya (On The Bayou).” The upbeat track features a guest appearance by Trombone Shorty.

As Shorty has posted, proceeds from the song will benefit the Roots of Music, an organization that empowers the youth of New Orleans through music education, academic support and mentorship.

The artists recorded the new version for the CBS special United We Sing: A Grammy Salute To The Unsung Heroes,’ which aired on CBS on 21 June, presented by Harry Connick Jr. Little Big Town tweeted “We had the privilege of working with the incomparable @Tromboneshorty on the Hank Williams classic Jambalaya. Mixed up some New Orleans and Nashville. Hope you like it!”

Shorty looks forward to 2021

Little Big Town’s spring tour dates, which were postponed until an August start, are currently still advertised on their website. They have dates listed through October, and another on January 7 in Portland, Oregon. Trombone Shorty, meanwhile, announced this week that he’s booked to perform on Easter weekend 2021 at Australia’s 32nd BluesFest Byron Bay, New South Wales.

The stellar line-up for next year’s event also includes such stars as Bon Iver, Patti Smith and her Band, Jimmy Barnes, George Benson, the Teskey Brothers, John Mayall, Larkin Poe, the Marcus King Band, Kool and the Gang, the Cat Empire, Buffy Sainte-Marie and countless others. “Feels good to think about getting back on the road,” tweeted Shorty.

Williams’ 1952 original of the feelgood “Jambalaya (On The Bayou)” was a country No. 1, with the pop hit going to vocalist Jo Stafford. As our dedicated story documents, there were subsequent versions by Kitty Wells, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and John Fogerty among others. In 1973, the Carpenters served “Jambalaya” to a new generation by including it on their Now & Then album.
