Sheryl Crow has today (28) released the new song “In The End,” a spirited and rocking track accompanied by an animated music video. The track is also the “secret B-side” on the limited edition 7” format of her recently-issued new version of the 2012 song “Woman In The White House.”

“In The End,” Crow’s latest for Big Machine Label Group’s Valory label, was written by the artist and her longtime collaborator Jeff Trott. The two have worked together since the days of her self-titled album of 1996, and co-wrote such signatures of Sheryl’s as “If It Makes You Happy,” “Every Day Is A Winding Road” and “My Favorite Mistake.”

“The king of the world watches TV”

“In The End” was produced by the widely-travelled Steve Jordan, and has Crow in typically plain-speaking form as she takes aim at America’s political and corporate establishment. She leaves little ambiguity about the subject of her approbation, in the very building mentioned in her recent release. “There’s a fly on the wall in the house on the hill,” she sings, “where the king of the world watches TV/And the people all wait for his latest mandate/To a nation of angry believers.”

The song goes on: “His words are a drug while his loyal band of thugs/Cover up all his many transgressions/The fly lands on his ear and whispers ‘what’s there to fear/As long as you’re still the obsession.’”

Last week, the singer-songwriter also shared a new video for “Lonely Alone,” her duet with Willie Nelson from last year’s Threads album, also produced by Jordan. On Wednesday, Crow played live to open the one-hour special WIF Presents: Make It Work! On broadcast outlet The CW.

The variety show combined music, comedy and special guests to explore “the issues and solutions for getting women back to work.” The special benefited Women In Film’s Hire Her Back campaign.
