NIN’s Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross Score First Emmy For ‘Watchmen’
The prolific duo has previously won an Academy Award and multiple Grammys.
Longtime musical collaborators Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are one step closer to becoming “EGOTs” following the 72nd Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards this weekend. The duo scored a win for Outstanding Music Composition For a Limited Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score) for their work on HBO’s Watchmen.
Reznor and Ross helped Watchmen lead this year’s nominations with a total of 26 nods across the Creative Arts and Primetime Emmy Awards, and an impressive 11 wins across both ceremonies.
Other notable wins included Ludwig Göransson, for his work on The Mandalorian. The Swedish composer, conductor, and producer has not only scored such films as Black Panther, Creed, and Creed II, but he has also produced albums for the likes of HAIM, Childish Gambino, and Alicia Keys.
Acclaimed musical director Rickey Minor (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, American Idol, Academy Awards) won for his work on The Kennedy Center Honors. Minor has also overseen the music for a variety of major artist tours, including those for Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, and Beyoncé.
British singer-songwriter Labrinth also scored an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song “All for Us,” which appeared in the season finale of Euphoria.
Additionally, musical dramedy series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, which features cast renditions of modern and classic hits from artists like The Beatles, Whitney Houston, and the Jonas Brothers, scored a win for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming.
Reznor and Ross, meanwhile, released their Watchmen score in three separate volumes late last year. The duo worked in tandem with the show’s creator, Damon Lindelof, to create a dynamic and riveting score for the part-adaptation/part-sequel to the 1987 graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. In addition to the show’s score, Watchmen also features a vibrant soundtrack of musically diverse songs – from Irma Thomas’ “Time is on My Side” to the Beastie Boys’ “Egg Man.”
Coming up, Reznor and Ross’ musical contributions will be further be celebrated this November when Nine Inch Nails is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
