Carrie Underwood’s ‘Drinking Alone’ Wins Double Honors At CMT Awards
The show featured performances by such stars as Shania Twain, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Luke Bryan, and Mickey Guyton.
Carrie Underwood’s “Drinking Alone” won both Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year at the 2020 CMT Awards, which took place last night (22) in Nashville.
Hosted by Sarah Hyland, Kane Brown, and Ashley McBryde, the show featured a series of largely pretaped “epic outdoor performances,” by such stars as Shania Twain, Luke Combs, Dan + Shay, Maren Morris, Luke Bryan, Mickey Guyton, and McBryde herself. She fronted a fan viewing party, carefully curated for the health and safety of those present, in a park in downtown Nashville.
Twain featured with a performance of “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”, one of the hits from her newly-expanded The Woman In Me album of 1995. The clip was filmed at Chaplin’s World, a Charlie Chaplin Museum in Switzerland, where she has a home.

Bryan’s “One Margarita” was named Male Video of the Year, while Dan + Shay’s “I Should Probably Go To Bed” was Duo Video. Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope” was breakthrough video, presented to the rising star by Taylor Swift, and Old Dominion’s “One Man Band” took the Group Video honors. The Collaborative Video of the Year was the clip for “Nobody But You” by Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani. Shelton and Underwood were among those giving acceptance speeches from home.

The CMT Performance of the Year award went to Chris Young for “Drowning,” from CMT Artists of the Year, while a new Quarantine Video of the Year title was bestowed on Granger Smith’s “Don’t Cough On Me!”. In another new honor, Jennifer Nettles received the Equal Play Award, recognizing her continued advocacy for gender equality within the music business.
CMT’s “side stage” featured brief performances by Caylee Hammack, Hardy, Ingrid Andress, Riley Green, Travis Denning, and Guyton, who sang “Heaven Down Here” and was described as “superb” by Rolling Stone.
