KISS Debut New Doc ‘Biography: KISStory,’ Perform Outdoor Concert At Tribeca Film Festival
The documentary was directed by D.J. Viola and will be premiering on A&E across two nights starting June 27 and wrapping up on June 28.
At the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of their new documentary Biography: KISStory, legendary rock ensemble KISS performed a complete mini-concert at the festival’s Battery Park location in New York City.
“Being from New York, we had to open up New York, so this is our way of saying welcome back to everybody,” Paul Stanley said to the crowd to kick off the show, later adding: “In August, we hit the road. So tonight we’re just giving you a few songs. We don’t have a permit to make a long show.”
The brief set included performances of “Detroit Rock City,” “Shout It Out Loud,” “War Machine” and “Heaven’s on Fire.” It marked the band’s first performance in over a year. In 2020, KISS postponed the dates of their farewell tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The premiere of their career-spanning documentary proved to be the best time to make a return to the stage, even if only for a few songs.
Presented by A&E, Biography: KISStory spans three hours and chronicles KISS’ rise to global stardom and the most notable moments of the band’s career through the decades. The first half of the film, which aired at the festival, explores the beginning stages of the band’s story with founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons.
