Jimmy Buffett Vinyl Reissue Series Continues

UMe’s summer-long celebration of Jimmy Buffett continues with a second round of newly remastered vinyl reissues. The latest batch arrives July 12 and includes A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean (1973), Havana Daydreamin’ (1976), and Banana Wind (1996).

The 10-album Buffett celebration spans three decades of the late folk hero’s career. Several out-of-print records from the ’70s and ’80s will return to vinyl for the first time in more than four decades, while three of his beloved ’90s albums make their vinyl debut.

Buffett’s third studio album, A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean, introduced him to a wider audience thanks to the hit singles “Grapefruit – Juicy Fruit” and “Why Don’t We Get Drunk.” Three years later, Havana Daydreamin’ was Buffett’s most successful album to date, reaching No. 65 on Billboard Top 200 and No. 21 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums. Banana Wind includes “Jamaica Mistaica,” which recalls a real-life incident where Jamaican authorities shot at Buffett’s seaplane, the Hemisphere Dancer, believing it to be a smuggling operation. None of the passengers, which includes U2’s Bono and Island Records producer Chris Blackwell, were hurt. Banana Wind debuted at No. 4 on the Top 200.

Each release will be available on standard black vinyl and limited-edition colored vinyl. A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean will be released in transparent Pumpkin Spice Orange while Havana Daydreamin’ will be in opaque Carmine Red. The 2LP Banana Wind will pair a unique Light Sky Blue album with an opaque Marshmallow White edition.

These latest reissues follow an initial trio of Buffett’s seminal albums: Living and Dying in 3/4 Time (1973), One Particular Harbour (1983), and Fruitcakes (1994). Those are out June 7 and are available for pre-order now.

The final four reissues arrive in August.
