The latest episode of Ann Wilson’s popular After Dinner Thinks podcast features two of music’s most exciting voices, Lucy Dacus and Chappell Roan.

The trio engaged in a backstage conversation that covered plenty of territory, from what the artists like to wear on stage to navigating life in the spotlight and the importance of legacy.

Just over 15 minutes into the chat, Dacus, who released her acclaimed fourth studio album Forever is a Feeling in March, asked Wilson if she ever considered quitting the music business.

Wilson responded: “No. It’s like, would you think about quitting eating?” The trio then joked that they in fact had considered quitting eating at times, before Roan clarified that making music was “like water.”

Wilson added: “I’ve always been really optimistic about it. And I just think, like, ‘Okay, you take your lumps, you know, and there’s ups and downs and all that.’ But the main thing is you’re doing something in continuum. It’s a journey and why quit? What else are you gonna do?”

Roan then asked Wilson about releasing a second Heart album after the success of 1975’s Dreamboat Annie, which included an all-time rock classic in “Crazy On You.” Heart returned in 1977 with Magazine. Roan asked what the experience was like, and Wilson tackled the question with her trademark honesty.

She said: “Oh, it was really stressful because there’s always a big pressure to match, especially if your debut album does really well. People are like, ‘How are you gonna match that? What’s your sophomore album gonna be?’ But it’s all from outside. It’s all from outside.”

The conversation arrived at an exciting time for all three artists, with Dacus on the road in support of Forever is a Feeling and Wilson and Roan with new releases on the horizon.

Wilson is gearing up to release Ann Wilson & Tripsitter Live in Concert Blu-Ray on June 6, which captures a particularly spirited show from the band at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl in the summer of 2023. Pre-order that release here.

Roan released “The Giver” back in May, one of her first new tracks since her monumental 2023 breakthrough, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The song has been released as a limited 7”, pressed on a number of different color variants, making it the perfect item for Roan diehards. Order that here.
