REDD. first conceived “better” as a party track in late 2025. By the time they recorded it in London with producer Dan Carey, whose credits include Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C., and Geese, the song had taken on a more personal meaning. “I was dealing with a lot personally, and the pub became this strange place of comfort and escape,” REDD. said, adding that the song is about wanting to “outrun reality, even if only for a night.” Built around fuzz guitars and a repeated hook, “better” focuses on the urge to step away from responsibility. Its central line, “If you like me now, I’m better when I’m f*cked up,” connects that impulse with the reckless optimism, temporary freedom, and self-destructive edge REDD. associates with late nights in their early twenties.

Across heaven’s here, REDD. draws on punk, rap, and electro while writing about gender, sexuality, grief, love, escapism, and coming of age. REDD. said they originally approached heaven’s here as “a party, an escape for people,” before a difficult series of personal events and the end of a relationship changed everything. The week before a writing trip several difficult events occurred, followed by a breakup. As REDD. put it: life became “very heavy, very fast.” For REDD., heaven’s here then became a record about “identity, grief and self discovery” as they worked through a period of rebuilding.
