Signed Frames From Keane’s ‘Sovereign Light Cafe’ Video Are Available Now
The band have teamed up with Pause studio to create the art prints.
Keane have teamed up with Pause Studio to create prints pulled from individual frames of their “Sovereign Light Café” video. A limited number of these unique prints have been selected and hand signed by the group.
Prints are available both framed and unframed in A2 and A3 sizes. “We painstakingly prepare every video so it’s ready for printing and looks perfect when making the jump from screen to paper,” the company’s site explains. “Pause prints are created in the UK using the best digital printing techniques. We use heavy-weight matte artist-grade papers, with the option of a custom frame, precision-made in Germany. Our papers and frames are of the same standard that you’ll find in many of the world’s best art galleries and museums. All orders are double or triple packed and shipped globally with full tracking.”

The video for “Sovereign Light Café” was directed by Lindy Heymann and filmed in Bexhill-on-Sea, a seaside town near where the band grew up. As lead singer Tom Chaplin walks along the promenade, he’s gradually joined by a lively mix of locals. The walk culminates in front of the titular café.
Keane pianist Tim Rice-Oxley told the story behind the song on Keane’s website: “I had a sketch of the melody on a cassette and was listening to it on a flight into Mexico in 2009. I couldn’t come up with any words, but… suddenly the name of the old cafe on Bexhill seafront came into my head. I had actually always wanted to write a song with that title… After a gap of many years the phrase popped back into my head and unlocked this idea of looking back to the beginning and trying to work out what had happened to me, and to us, over the last 15 years or so.”
Novelist William Boyd was inspired by the song to write a short story, “The Sovereign Light Café,” that was published alongside the band’s 2012 album Strangeland.
