dodie has released a deluxe edition of Not For Lack Of Trying, adding the new song “As Far As We Know” alongside live reworkings of album favorites. The sessions took place at a countryside studio on the singer-songwriter’s 31st birthday, with friends relearning and playing songs together, sharing new material and jamming late into the night. The gathering also included an 1800s-themed murder mystery.

dodie said time and memory remain recurring subjects in her songwriting. “I am always aware of every moment, always exploring the grief of passing time in my songwriting,” she said. She described “As Far As We Know” as a more optimistic take on those ideas, and as a closing thought for the album.

Released in 2025, Not For Lack Of Trying grew out of a difficult period as dodie searched for meaning. Written mostly between London and Los Angeles, the album was produced with Grammy-nominated Joe Rubel. Its songs address love, breakups, comparison culture and depression. The record includes “Tall Kids,” “Darling, Angel, Baby,” “I Feel Bad For You, Dave” and “I’M FINE!,” her first solo release in three years. Its expanded world also includes “Fruit in the Sun,” which dwells on the discomfort of standing still, while “As Far As We Know” looks toward movement.

The deluxe release accompanies dodie’s “Not For Lack of Clarinets” tour, an intimate performance of the album in full, with every song rescored for two clarinets. General onsale began August 28. The announced dates are October 23 in Manchester, October 25 in Glasgow and October 26 in London, followed by November 8 in Los Angeles, November 10 in Chicago, November 11 in Toronto and November 12 in New York.
