‘Grease’ Soundtrack Gets Liquid-Filled Vinyl Pressing
The collectible two-disc edition features a sealed liquid layer that moves as the records spin.
A new “Grease & Sparkling Pink” liquid-filled 2LP vinyl edition of the iconic Grease soundtrack has been announced. The pressing puts the music from the 1978 film musical into a collectible format designed to make the record’s movement part of the listening experience. The set features the movie soundtrack’s familiar songs, including “You’re the One That I Want,” “Summer Nights,” and “Grease.” 1LP of this new edition is pressed on clear vinyl. The second is pressed on sparkling pink vinyl. Both contain a sealed layer of liquid that moves as the record turns.

Released in 1978, the Grease soundtrack brought together songs from the stage musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey with material written for the film. The story follows students at Rydell High, where summer romance between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson is tested when they return to school and find themselves among different social circles. The soundtrack reflects that setting through ensemble numbers, character songs, and the central duets. “Summer Nights” recounts Danny and Sandy’s summer relationship from their separate perspectives, while “You’re the One That I Want” brings the pair together near the story’s conclusion.
The recording’s lead performers include Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, whose on-screen pairing helped define the film’s musical identity. Newton-John sings “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” while Travolta performs “Greased Lightnin’”; the two share “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want.” The soundtrack also includes Frankie Valli’s title song, written by Barry Gibb, and performances by Stockard Channing, Frankie Avalon, and Sha Na Na. The original album was issued as a double LP ahead of the film’s theatrical release, and six songs from the soundtrack were released as singles.
The liquid-filled construction distinguishes this pressing from a standard colored-vinyl edition. A sealed liquid layer sits within the playable record, producing a shifting visual effect as each side spins. Because each copy is assembled individually, the liquid’s appearance and movement can vary from record to record. The filling and sealing process requires additional materials, specialized assembly, and quality control. Owners are advised to handle the records with care and avoid extreme temperatures or unnecessary stress.
