The song takes a more stripped-back approach than Hill’s recent upbeat releases. Its lyrics look back on the end of a relationship, with Hill reflecting on his own mistakes and the pain of seeing a former partner move on quickly. “Record Timing” follows earlier singles from Hill’s debut album, including “Working On It” and “Hot Sprite,” as well as “Orange Wine.” He also wrote “Winning Formula” for the film Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, marking his first song for a film.
The live version is Hill’s first live release on streaming platforms since “Careless Whisper (Live at Wembley Arena).” His cover of George Michael’s song was officially released after fan demand following Hill’s Wembley Arena show, where he became one of the first artists to play the venue without having released a debut album. In 2027, Hill is set to begin the Arthway Round The World Tour, with his first headline dates in North America and returns to stages in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
