Ariana Grande continues her hit parade, snagging her first ever No.1 solo hit on the Billboard 100 with her new breakup anthem, ‘Thank U, Next’.
Since its release on 4 November, the single shot to the top the charts, with over 55.5 million streams in the US alone and now holds the global record for “No. 1 Most-Streamed Pop Song First-Week on Apple Music” and for biggest single day for a female artist in Spotify history.
The multi-platinum star also broke multiple records with ‘Thank U, Next’, becoming “the only female artist to chart in the Top 5 songs first-week of release on Apple Music” and the first song by a woman pop singer to debut at No. 1 since Adele’s ‘Hello’ in 2015, according to Chart Data.
Outside of the US, it also debuted at No. 1 on the Official UK Singles chart, becoming the highest selling No. 1 debut of the year in the UK.

Along with Beyoncé, Camila Cabello, and Cardi B, Grande is just one of four women with No. 1 hit songs in 2018 and did it without a collaborative track.
Despite a tumultuous personal year, Grande has celebrated many professional milestones, with the explosive success of her third No. 1 album Sweetener, which singlehandedly put female-driven pop back on the charts.
As uDiscover previously reported, the singer recently performed the new single on The Ellen Show, recreating a famous scene from the American film The First Wives Club.
The new breakup track addresses all of her exes, including comedian Pete Davidson as well as Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, and the late Mac Miller. The singer also shared on Twitter that both Sean and Alvarez heard the track before it came out. She also mentioned there was ‘Thank U, Next’ potential merch in the works.
Upon hearing the news, Grande took to social media to share her gratitude writing: “What an interesting, challenging, painful and yet beautiful and exciting chapter of life …. when it rains it pours but I’m embracing all of it. I’m excited for whatever else the universe has in store for me”.
