Black Sabbath will be the recipients of an AEG Live ‘Ambassadors of Rock’ trophy at this year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards, in a daytime ceremony on Friday, July 4.

Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi are due to receive the award, sponsored by music and sports entertainment presenter AEG Live, ahead of their headlining appearance at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park on the same evening.

This marks the first time AEG Live has sponsored the award with Nordoff Robbins. “We are extremely proud to be sponsoring this award, which highlights the massive impact Black Sabbath has had on the music world,” says Tom Miserendino, President & CEO of AEG Europe. “Starting in Birmingham in 1968 and going on to conquer the world, the band really are great ambassadors for the music industry. We are equally excited about them taking over Hyde Park later that same evening, following their triumphant return to live gigs last year.”

Sabbath’s website promises that the Hyde Park show will see them “cast a night of darkness in what is set to be a bright summer.” The success of the band’s reunion album ‘13’ last year was crowned by a Grammy award in January, for Best Metal Performance for the track ‘God Is Dead?’
