The son of legendary folkies Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, the flamboyant American-Canadian singer-songwriter has released eight studio albums, opening with his self-titled debut in May 1998. He released his landmark third album, Want One, in 2003, featuring contributions from Linda Thompson and his sister, Martha Wainwright.

Wainwright’s classic live album, Rufus Does Judy recorded at Carnegie Hall in 2006 with a 36-piece orchestra was nominated for a Grammy Award. He performed the show in the UK at the Palladium in 2007 and later for two nights at the Royal Opera House in 2011. His opera Prima Donna premiered at the Manchester International Festival in 2009.

In 2012, Wainwright released the critically-hailed Out Of The Game, which found him hooking up with in-demand production wunderkind Mark Ronson, famous for helming Grammy-winning albums by the likes of Adele and Amy Winehouse. Prima Donna, the double-vinyl issue of the opera he co-composed to the French-language libretto he’d co-authored with Bernadette Colomine was released to considerable acclaim through Deutsche Grammophon in 2015.
